RSQ x Society6 Black History Month Artist Spotlight

February is Black History Month, a period of commemoration and celebration during which the
artistic, cultural, and scientific contributions of Black Americans take center
stage. In observation of Black History Month, RSQ is teaming up with Society6 to launch an
exclusive collection of tees featuring vibrant, eye-catching designs by Black Artists. Read on to meet Elise Ndri, Manzel Bowman, and Sabrena Khadija, three uniquely talented artists.
Eelise Ndri (she/her) is a digital artist and writer based in Montreal, Canada. Known for her contemporary style, Eelise creates art that is funky, spirited, and exceedingly bright. Though stylistically experimental, Eelise’s signature is consistent across her work: she finishes each piece with a single white line at eye level to open her art up to interpretation by the viewer. She was selected to collaborate with the collective group, Never Was Average, to create the iconic #BlackLivesMatter street mural in Montreal.
On how she inserts herself into her artwork: “I wanted to express the multifaceted forms of my emotions and self-identity, through a myriad of vessels, which serve as a prism into a more colorful and hopeful path.”

Manzel Bowman (he/him) is an artist and best-selling Tarot deck creator based in New York. He draws inspiration from elaborate designs, producing pieces with stories that go beyond the limits of space and time. Manzel’s futuristic artwork is multidimensional, comprised of many complex details that demand the viewer’s attention.
On his cosmic creations: “My designs are inspired by everything from nature to the ineffable. I like to create imagery that captures the essence of my culture while providing an interstellar or futurist narrative.”

Sabrena Khadija (she/they) is a creative illustrator based in Washington, D.C. A Sierra-Leonean American and black non-binary artist, Sabrena aims to create work that inspires others, especially those searching for an inclusive setting in which to find creativity and joy.
On what inspires their art: “‘Power Flower’ is an ode to self-love, a theme I find myself constantly coming back to in my work.”

National Park Week offers nature-lovers, outdoors enthusiasts, and the general public alike the chance to learn about and celebrate the 400+ national parks located in the United States alone. From April 22 to April 30, the National Park Service and its affiliated partners will host a variety of educational activities and specially-curated programs to encourage public appreciation and reverence for these legally protected sites.
In celebration of National Park Week, RSQ, a Tillys-exclusive brand, and the Creative Action Network (CAN), a marketplace for artists and advocates to design and sell goods, have launched a collection of men’s and women’s T-shirts featuring artwork inspired by nature. Death Valley

To commemorate LGBTQ+ Pride Month, RSQ is collaborating with Society6 to launch an exclusive collection of tees and home decor featuring colorful, eye-catching designs by queer artists.
Shanée Benjamin (she/her) is an art director and illustrator from Brooklyn, NY focusing on Gen-Z and millennial content. With almost a decade of design experience, Shanée made the leap into digital illustration, focusing on passionately telling the stories of LGBTQIA+ black and brown folks. Creating community and connection through art is her passion.

Carina Guevara (she/her) is a Latiné illustrator and comic artist based out of Austin, TX. Carina loves to work on book covers, editorial illustration, and personal comics. She has been a practicing artist since 2015, and her work is often informed by her love of romance, geeky and latiné experiences.
On her vibrant artwork: “I designed ‘Y’all Means All’ as a reminder that the world ‘y’all’ is gender neutral and inclusive by nature. Being from Texas and usually inspired by western aesthetics, I love the idea of playing with the romanticism around cowpokes.”

Halyn Erickson (they/them) is a non-binary queer illustrator, designer, and performer living in Paris, France, originally from Austin, Texas. They are an avid embroidery artist, serial hobbyist, and amateur historian. Their work celebrates the brightness of queer, trans existence and aims to harness that brightness against a harsh and unforgiving reality.
On the meaning behind their T-shirt design: “As a non-binary person, this message is near and dear to my heart. Our world is filled with people of so many diverse and beautiful gender identities; I wanted to celebrate them with a colorful, disco-themed piece to reference the first-ever Pride held in 1969, because we would not be where we are today without those who fought before us.”

If your white slip-on sneakers need a bit more help, you can try a stain-removing liquid or powder. Using rubber gloves, apply a small amount of stain remover onto the surface of the sneaker and wait 5 minutes before dabbing with a cloth.
